Florence L. Crawford
Florence L. Crawford was a pioneering Pentecostal evangelist and founder of the Apostolic Faith Church in Portland, Oregon. Despite health struggles in childhood and being raised by atheist parents, she was converted early in life and experienced sanctification, healing, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit during the 1906 Azusa Street Revival. Her passion for holiness, evangelism, and Spirit-filled living was widely documented in the Apostolic Faith newspaper, where her testimonies inspired thousands globally.
Separated from her husband over her newfound faith, Crawford devoted her life to ministry. She helped lead revivals across the U.S. and Canada, where many were healed, delivered, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Following a break with William Seymour after internal conflicts at Azusa Street, she established an independent work in Portland in 1907, taking the Apostolic Faith mailing list and expanding the movement’s influence worldwide.
For over 30 years, she served as general overseer, upholding strict holiness doctrine. Though the denomination remained small, her leadership left a lasting impact on global Pentecostalism.
